As any other flooring product, hardwood floors need a certain level of maintenance to keep a perfect look. Hardwood floors maintenance is way more than just cleaning it. The environment in which the floor is installed is an important thing to consider.

Usually, hardwood floors must be installed in a room where the relative humidity level is between 40 and 60%. Often, the manufacturer even recommands that the floor is installed in a room where that level is at 45%. Nevertheless, Quebec’s weather is changing depending of the season, as well as relative humidity levels. Winter means a low humidity level because of the heating and summer means a high one.

A good way to maintain the humidity level constant is to use an humidifier during winter and a dehumidifier during summer. That way, the house will be more humide in the winter, reducing the space between the wood pieces, and drier during summer, no bombing occuring. More sofisticated supplies exist. Those products are central and able you to control the humidity level of all the house at the same time.

Of course, maintenance wouldn’t be complete without cleaning the floor. The floor can be cleaned simply by using a lightly humid terry. Obviously, the terry can’t be soaked because of the reaction between water and wood. Some products act as ungreasers and are specificly made for wood floors. You can find those products in our stores.
