An hardwood floor gives a room a wonderful look. Can any room in the house get the same great look? Can I install a wood floor in a basement? Everything depends of the type of house you live in and of the type of wood floor you choose. Obviously, the room’s relative humidity has a lot to do with the reticence of a lot of people when talking about wood flooring and basements. A basement is a really humide room all year long. For that reason, a lot of retailers will offer you a laminate floor instead. If you want to install an hardwood floor in the basement, you can get a dehumidifier to give the room the best conditions. More details on that subject are available in the « Maintenance » section.

For the basement, an under floor can also be built respecting a few norms, which will able humidity to get out without damaging the floor. Transversal forens need to be installed to let the air pass between the sections. A few aeration holes need to be made in the room so the humidity has a way out.

Wood flooring can be installed over heating floors. Ideal floor for that type of installation is Symmetry flooring, a stable floor in humide and dry rooms. Generally, wood pieces size can diminuish when installed on heating floors. Because of its fabrication mode, Symmetry floor avoids these reductions and stays stable in every condition.
